Transform Workplace Culture

The time is now to elevate empathy in the workplace as a core value that impacts culture, innovation, productivity, and profit. Organizations must demonstrate empathy across two channels: internally, to their own employees, externally, to their customers and stakeholders We partner with organizations for profit and non-profit to drive a culture change that will reinforce strategy to build a culture of empathy. Empathy must be in the fabric of an organization’s culture. While we believe that most people are good hearted and well-intentioned, they often lack the awareness, knowledge, experience and skills that are needed to interact, manage and lead effectively in today’s diverse workforce. Consequently, many tend to interact less with co-workers who are different from them. Employees also will be affected by systemic forces differently and therefore will result in a different work experience across the board. For example, the systemic racism that Black employees face impacts every aspect of work life.

These employees are forced to work in less equitable spaces, due to the failure of leadership to realistically consider their concerns around inequity and marginalization. A culture of empathy is a result of benefits and practices that value each employee for who they are, and that lets them know their well-being and quality of life truly matter to the organization. There is no quick fix — for empathy to make an impact, it must be thorough and authentic. Empathy is essential for employers in their attempts to create a positive and productive workplace environment. It can be the differentiating factor that motivates, unites, and connects people within an organization. By creating an inclusive, just and belonging environment, organizations can foster empathy that motivates and retains employees.
